Jon Lester wants to 'bring another ring' to D.C. originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

When Jon Lester agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with the Nationals this offseason he joined one of the deepest pitching rotations in baseball.

The Nationals' boast perhaps the most accomplished group of starters in the league, with multi-Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg, multiple time All-Star Patrick Corbin and now Lester, himself a five-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion.

With a pedigree like his, and the rest of the rotation, it's no surprise Lester has just one thing on his mind as he comes to Washington: winning.

"Win," Lester told reporters succinctly when asked what goals he had upon arriving in the nation's capital. "I mean I think that’s never wavered for me. From day one even in the minor leagues, until I signed with the Cubs, to now being here with the Nationals, I want to win. I still have the drive to win. You know, I want to bring another ring to D.C., and hopefully we can do that."

Bringing another World Series ring is a goal that should be music to the ears of Nats fans everywhere. It's not the first time fans have heard an accomplished player wearing number 34 say he'd like to bring a title to Washington, though this time it comes from a player actually playing in D.C.

If Lester's goal comes to fruition, it will likely be on the backs of the Nationals' stellar rotation. Even at 37 years old, he can be a strong piece behind the team's other aces.

Despite their last-place finish in the NL East in 2020, the Nationals still view themselves as World Series contenders in 2021. So, apparently, does Lester.
