Nate Diaz blasts ‘spoiled little b*tch’ Conor McGregor on 5-year anniversary of UFC 196

Nate Diaz had harsh words for Conor McGregor on the five-year anniversary of his famous win at UFC 196.

Exactly five years ago, Diaz (20-12 MMA, 15-10 UFC) became the first man to beat McGregor (22-5 MMA, 10-3 UFC) under the UFC banner when he earned a second-round submission victory to kick off perhaps the most notable two-fight series in UFC history with his rival.

McGregor, the UFC featherweight champion at the time, was originally set to challenge then-lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the UFC 196 headliner. Dos Anjos suffered an injury, and Diaz stepped in on less than two weeks’ notice to take on McGregor in a welterweight bout.

Diaz pulled off the monumental win and set up a rematch at UFC 202 in August 2016 that McGregor won by majority decision. A trilogy has been lingering since, but the timing doesn’t seem right since McGregor is looking at another trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at the moment.

There are no good feelings from Diaz toward either McGregor or Poirier, and Friday he delivered a profanity-laced tweet directed at both of them (via Twitter):

Diaz hasn’t competed since November 2019, when he lost to Jorge Masvidal in the “BMF” title fight in at UFC 244. He recently expressed interest in a return and named Poirier and Charles Oliveira as two particular fights of interest.

Poirier has since said he would be open to a future fight with Diaz – and would even move up to welterweight for it – but as of now, the McGregor trilogy is his priority.

UFC president Dana White said this week he’s targeting McGregor vs. Poirier 3 for this summer.
