Okay, I don't care who you are or what you think of Rick's allegedly checkered past; this is cool. The entire Hendrick Motorsports organization seems to have mobilized to aid the relief effort in Haiti.

At first I was just chasing a story about how Rick sent a plane down there, with an all-volunteer crew, to help move people and supplies back and forth from Florida to the stricken area. He had, in fact, to get special permission from the FAA to do this thing. The plane and crew are on indefinite loan to Missionary Flights International, and Rick is personally picking up the tab for the mission costs, which can't be cheap.

But wait, there's more! Though Hendrick's home page modestly doesn't mention the plane, it does say that PepsiCo has committed $1 million, Bank of America another million, $500,000, Lowe's a million, and GM $100,000. (GM, really? You'd think with all that dough they got from the government, they'd have a few more bucks to blow... Okay, to be fair, GM's disaster relief fund has contributed over $15 million worldwide. There, I said it.) And of course, last but not least the National Guard, who doubtless didn't need Rick Hendrick's permission to mobilize.

So high fives to Rick and his sponsors for getting behind the Haitian people. Our hearts and prayers go out to them in their plight. And any of you that have fattened Hendrick's coffers, pat yourselves on the back. You deserve it!
