NASCAR Federated 400 race could face brief delays this evening

The NASCAR Playoffs will continue tonight at the Richmond Raceway amid warm and potentially unsettled weather.

It will be a relatively humid day in eastern Virginia. Combined with periods of sunshine, AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures will reach into the mid-80s by midday.

Anyone planning on spending the day outdoors should take care to wear loose, light-colored clothing and to remain well hydrated. Hats and sunglasses will be necessary as well.

The warmth and sunshine won't be the only weather in play - a nearby front will allow for a shower or thunderstorm to pop up at any point this afternoon or evening and move through the Richmond area.

While neither a washout nor severe storms are expected, any stormy activity that moves through could interfere with Richmond Raceway experience events and dampen the track.

Spectators should keep an eye on the sky, and download the free AccuWeather app for access to local radar and minute-by-minute rainfall forecasts.

Temperatures will fall to near 70 by the time the race begins. The thermometer will then continue to slowly taper into the low 60s as the night wears on.

The race is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. EDT. If a storm moves through around this time, a brief delay is possible as officials wait for the track to dry.

Additionally, the race could be put on hold if rain arrives before half of the laps have been completed. Otherwise, a winner would be declared early if showers move through during the second half of the event.
