NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at Texas: Starting lineup, TV schedule for Sunday's race
The format is lengthy and a tad bit convoluted (as you'll see below), but the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Texas for the All-Star Race.
It'll be a four-stage race with a pit-stop competition in between. The racing should improve from the last couple years at Texas, as the Next Gen car has done for all 1.5-mile tracks. That includes last week's Kansas race, where Kyle Larson and Kurt Busch dueled back and forth for the last 100 laps or so. Busch prevailed for his first win of the year.
Here's what you need to know about Sunday's All-Star Race:
NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at Texas schedule
Green Flag Time: 4:30 p.m. CT Sunday for All-Star Open, 7 p.m. CT Sunday for All-Star Race
Track: Texas Motor Speedway (1.5 mile oval) in Fort Worth, Texas
Format: All-Star Open is three segments (20, 20 and 10 laps); each segment winner advances to All-Star Race. Fans will vote another driver into All-Star Race.
All-Star Race is four stages (25, 25, 25 and 50 laps). The Stage 1 winner will start 1st in final stage (if the driver finishes in top 15 in the next two stages. The Stage 2 winner will start 2nd in final stage (if the driver finishes in top 15 in Stage 3). The Stage 3 winner will start 3rd in final stage. A pit stop competition winner in between Stages 2 and 3 will start 4th in the final stage.
In final stage, there will be a competition caution after Lap 25 if there is no caution in the preceding 10 laps. The winner earns $1 million.

Practice and qualifying: 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday qualifying on FOX Sports 1; 6 p.m. CT Saturday practice
Qualifying format for All-Star Race: Two rounds; First round is single-car runs, and top eight move onto second round; Second round is single-elimination, bracket-style knockout qualifying where two matched-up cars start on pit road, take 4-tire pit stop and race off pit road for a lap.
Xfinity Series this week: SRS Distribution 250 (167 laps, 250.5 miles) at Texas Motor Speedway, 12:30 p.m. CT Saturday on FS1 and PRN
Truck Series this week: SpeedyCash.com 220 (147 laps, 220.5 miles) at Texas Motor Speedway, 7:30 p.m. CT Friday on FS1 and MRN
