Mustang girls take second, boys third at Davis County

Sep. 9—BLOOMFIELD — Abi Teeter and Tiffani Koonce placed in the top five of the girls' 5K race and Coby DeRaad was fifth in the boys' race at Mustang Sports Complex on Thursday.

The PCM Mustangs competed in the Davis County Cross Country Invitational and the girls led the way in second place.

PCM's girls scored 44 points and trailed only Class 2A No. 2 Albia, which won the meet with 23 points. Host Davis County was third in the three-team field with 66 points. The Lady Demons secured eight runners in the first 14 places.

On the boys' side, PCM scored 66 in third. Davis County won the meet with 29 points and 2A No. 20 Albia was second with 37.

The host Mustangs put six runners in the top 12 positions and the rest of the six-team field included Central Lee (117), Moravia (153) and Moulton-Udell (153).

Teeter was fourth in the girls' 5K race and Koonce placed fifth. The Mustang duo completed the race in 22 minutes, 29.64 seconds and 22:30.19, respectively.

Bailey Wheeler (23:31.54) finished 10th, Makayla True (23:38.03) came in 11th and Ali Hilsabeck (24:06.29) was the final counting scorer in 16th.

Lila Milani (24:18.47) and Paiten Rumbaugh (24:27.16) were the non-counting scorers in 17th and 19th, respectively.

Coby DeRaad

Class 2A No. 5 McKenna Montgomery of Albia won the girls' race in 20:04.99. Class 2A No. 30 Avery Major of Albia was the runner-up in 22:07.13.

DeRaad's fifth-place time in the boys' 5K race was clocked at 19:20.92. Joe Shaver finished 14th in 20:58.12, Leighton McClure (21:38.17) took 18th and Charlie Ford (21:48.22) was 20th.

The final counting scorer for the Mustangs was Kolby Clark (22:09.67) in 23rd.

Gabe Nessa (23:45.97) and Jacob Buys (26:31.35) were non-counting scorers in 35th and 51st, respectively.

Class 2A No. 24 Ethan Stalzer of Albia won the boys' race in 18:42.59. Davis County's Sutton Shively was the runner-up in 18:43.10.
