How much snow is expected in Springfield? What to know about this week’s winter weather

Greene County remains under a National Weather Service-issued winter storm warning until midnight Friday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, meteorologists were expecting several inches of snow to fall in the Springfield area during this week's winter weather event.

Thursday morning forecast

Snowfall from Wednesday night was expected to accumulate 5-8 inches by Thursday morning, according to meteorologist Justin Titus with the National Weather Service's Springfield office. A light snow will continue throughout the morning.

Drivers are advised to avoid the roads Thursday morning, as several inches of snow accumulation will take time to clear.

Thursday afternoon and night forecast

A dusting of snow is predicted for the rest of Thursday, into the evening. Titus said this dusting is expected to accumulate no more than half an inch of snow. The high for Thursday is 19 degrees, but wind chill values are expected to be below zero.

Friday forecast

Thursday night's dusting of snow may continue through Friday morning with temperatures in the single digits.

As for ice, the majority of accumulation occurred Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Titus said Springfield should anticipate no more than a glaze with the ongoing snowfall.
