Michigan State has missed out on a big-time offensive tackle prospect in the 2023 class after the Longhorns swooped in late to steal his commitment.
Four-star prospect Payton Kirkland announced on Saturday evening that he will continue his football career at Texas. The Longhorns weren’t considered one of his five finalists, but were able to beat out Michigan State, Miami (FL), Alabama, Florida and Oklahoma.
Michigan State had been projected to land Kirkland’s commitment up until the past few days when things apparently changed. Texas wasn’t really in the picture until this week, and will end up with the highly-touted recruit.
Kirkland ranks as the No. 25 offensive tackle and No. 274 overall prospect in 247Sports’ composite rankings for the 2023 class.
