MSSU's Kryslyn Jones named athlete of the week by MIAA

Jan. 3—Missouri Southern State University's Kryslyn Jones was named the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week after her performance in an upset of No. 18 Drury on Sunday.

Jones is the first Lion to earn the player of the week honor so far this year.

Jones, a senior guard from Edmond, Oklahoma, led the Lions with 18 points on 6-12 shooting.

Jones was 2-for-4 from 3-point range, and the 90% free-throw shooter was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Jones also logged five rebounds and two steals to lead the Lions to their fifth straight win.

She and redshirt junior Kaitlin Hunnicutt lead the Lions in scoring with 12.8 and 12.6 ppg, respectively.

Jones, a transfer last year from Texas-A&M-Kingsville, also leads the team in made shots (56), total points (153), 3-pointers (23) and minutes per game (28.7).

She recorded a season-high 23 points earlier this season in a game against Midwestern State. She also was an honorable mention All-MIAA pick last year for Southern.
