MSSU's Cole Gayman named MIAA Pitcher of the Week

Mar. 13—KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Cole Gayman was named the MIAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement was made by the league on Tuesday.

Gayman previously was named Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 5 and was named National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association in early February after pitching in Missouri Southern's season opener.

Gayman, a Webb City High School graduate, won his fifth game in six starts last Friday — a 5-0 win over Emporia State. Gayman threw seven shutout innings in the win.

In the combined shutout, Gayman gave up just two hits and walked three while striking out three and held Hornets batters to a .083 average.

Gayman (5-0) boasts an ERA of 1.59 over 34 innings so far this season. He has given up just six earned runs on 17 hits, striking out 35 batters in the process. Opponents are hitting .144 against Gayman this season.

Gayman and the Lions return to action at 3 p.m. Friday with the first of three weekend games against the Pittsburg State Gorillas at home at Warren Turner Field.
