MSSU hurler Cole Gayman named D-II National Pitcher of the Week

Feb. 7—After an impressive start in the Missouri Southern baseball season opener against No. 17 Southern Arkansas last Friday, Southern pitcher Cole Gayman was named National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Wednesday.

Gayman was named the MIAA's first Pitcher of the Week earlier in the week and the accolades continued to roll in as he was named Regional Pitcher of the Week.

He gave up his only hit against Southern Arkansas to the first batter he faced and followed that by fanning seven batters in 6 innings of shutout baseball.

Gayman was a third-team All-MIAA pitcher last season and finished with a 6-2 record for the Lions.

The Lions (3-2) return to action at 3 p.m. Friday in their home-opener against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers (3-0) in a three-game series that also includes 1 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday. MSSU will look to avenge last Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Tigers during the Dugan Invitational in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
