Mortal Kombat X players just got a serious financial incentive to attend the world’s biggest fighting game event.
On Monday, Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon tweeted that publisher WB Games and developer NetherRealm Studios are contributing a $50,000 pot bonus to the Mortal Kombat XL tournament at Evo 2016:
Of course, if any MKX players want a shot at the biggest prize at Evo, they’ll likely have to contend with reigning Evo champion and three-time ESL MKX Pro League winner Dominique “SonicFox” McLean.
Boon, who is no stranger to teasing announcements on Twitter, also recently hinted at the potential for a Kombat Pack 3 for Mortal Kombat XL. The previous two Kombat Packs introduced a handful of returning and guest characters to Mortal Kombat X, including Bo Rai Cho, Predator, and Alien.
These announcements come on the heels of NetherRealm’s recent unveiling of Injustice 2, which gave the MKX community some concern about the future of their game. It appears NetherRealm is not done with MKX for the foreseeable future, so MKX players can rest easy for now.
