Mookie Betts honors David Ortiz with custom cleats during MLB Players' Weekend

David Ortiz is still recovering from a gunshot wound he sustained in the Dominican Republic, but the former Boston Red Sox slugger will manage to make an appearance with the team this weekend.

Red Sox star Mookie Betts revealed a pair of Ortiz-themed cleats he will be wearing for Players’ Weekend this series, and they’re pretty great.

Cleat designs like Betts’ are what MLB was hoping for when it went with completely white and black uniforms for Players’ Weekend this season, with the stated reason of drawing more attention to custom equipment and accessories designed by the players.

Dozens of other players are sporting custom cleats this weekend, with tributes from Pixar to Peaky Blinders.
