Mondraker adds carbon-framed models to its best selling Chrono DC range
The Mondraker Chrono DC has always been a bestseller for the Spanish mountain bike brand. Earlier this year they updated the aluminum framed versions of the Chrono DC hardtail mountain bikes which aimed to give them more aggressive ride characteristics with model-specific geometry and an impressive out-the-box spec of components.
Mondraker is now launching the new and updated Chrono Carbon DC which they say has now evolved and adapted to mountain biking’s changing trends and technologies making it more versatile than ever before. The new Chrono DC embraces the DC (downcountry) philosophy, making it a capable all-rounder carbon fiber hardtail at home as an XC, marathon, or trail mountain bike.
So what's new in Mondraker Chrono Carbon DC? We had a look over the details to find out...
Stealth carbon and DC geometry
The new Chrono Carbon DC comes in three builds – the Carbon Chrono DC RR, Carbon Chrono DC R, and Carbon Chrono DC with all builds featuring the redesigned Chrono 29 Stealth Carbon frame which they say weighs in at 1,150 grams, and takes its design cues from the brand's high-performance full suspension mountain bikes like the new Mondraker F-Podium, the Neat, and the Crusher.
Mondraker has designed the Chrono Carbon DC to be a true all-rounder hardtail, with the new frame built from the ground up in terms of design and geometry. It’s made from their own Stealth carbon with a trail-focused geometry that matches up (geometry-wise) with their Chrono aluminum framed siblings. The head angle on the new models is 67.5 degrees, which is 2.5 degrees slacker than the previous version, while the fork travel has been increased to 120mm, which they claim makes the Chrono Carbon DC a more capable and versatile mountain bike.
Downcountry specific build
An all-new component mix is another key factor on the Chrono Carbon DC models and the RR and R models come with an Onoff Pija factory-fitted dropper post, and Onoff finishing kit features throughout the range. Proven Maxxis Ardent 29 x 2.4-inch tires give a combination of rolling resistance, grip, and comfort on most terrains, and are paired up with Mavic CrossMax rims. To add to the overall comfort and provide a less demanding riding position on longer rides, Mondraker has reduced the stem length compared to the other models to S/M: 50mm, L: 60mm, and XL: 70mm. They have also increased the brake rotors to 180mm upfront and 160mm at the rear.
