Mom-to-be nears breaking point over fiancé’s commitment issues: ‘I don’t know why I’m waiting’
A woman doesn’t understand why her boyfriend of four years won’t propose — again.
She went on Reddit’s “Relationship Advice” forum for help. Her boyfriend proposed to her a month before they found out they were expecting. Then, around a year later, he told her that he didn’t love her and broke off the engagement. Now, she wants him to propose again.

“We bought a home in 2020, both on the mortgage,” she wrote. “We both wanted the next step. We have a 6-year-old from a previous relationship of mine. January of 2021, he proposed, and at the beginning of February, we found out we were expecting.
“Beginning of this year, he dropped on me in an argument, ‘I don’t love you anymore.’ I had to beg to get him to go to couples therapy. When times are great, they are perfect. When they are bad, they are awful. I want a commitment that’s been taken from me since he said I don’t love you anymore. I need it to feel more secure.

“He refuses to be engaged to be married,” she explained. “‘He’s not ready.’ We had the date set and a venue down payment made early last year for next year in the fall. Even with that much time, he doesn’t want to commit. But he loves me and wants to be with me, yet he won’t give me the one and only thing I ask for commitment through eventual marriage.
“He’s OK with being on a mortgage together but not marriage? I’ve verbalized [that] I won’t stay a girlfriend forever, and I will hit my breaking point, which I’m close to … but he doesn’t budge. I don’t know why I’m waiting or what to do. I’m lost.”
Redditors thought the boyfriend was playing games.
“Sounds like he is too comfortable to leave but really on the lookout for something better,” a user wrote.
“Why would he commit? He can literally tell you he doesn’t love you, and you beg him to stay,” another commented.
“He’s not ready. You[‘ve] got to let him go and show him what he missed out on,” a person said.
