Mom hilariously compares ‘parenting today’ to when she was growing up: ‘This is 1000 percent true’

Parenting habits have changed over the past thirty years and it shows.

Gwenna Laithland, a mom of three, creates funny parenting content as @mommacusses on TikTok. Back in 2020, she made a video comparing the parenting of today to when she was a kid. Let’s just say parents tended to be a lot laxer about the rules back in the day.

“Mom, Jessica, Jennifer, Elizabeth and I are going to go hang out at the abandoned construction site down the road,” Laithland said, playing herself as a teenager.

“OK. Be home before the streetlights come on,” Laithland’s mom, played by herself, said barely paying attention.

Parenting in her day was a little less hands-on and kids were a bit more independent. But the way Laithland is with her kids today couldn’t be more different.

When her teenager asked if they could go to a friend’s house, the mom’s response was a lot more thorough.

“Text me when you get there. Text me when you’re about to leave. Make sure location is turned on… on your phone. Have fun,” Laithland responded.

The video received over 1.4 million likes on TikTok

“I wish my parents were like that today but nope they’re strict AF,” a user commented.

“This is the most relatable thing I’ve seen in my entire life,” someone said.

“This is 1000 percent true,” another wrote.
