Molly Yeh's new restaurant -- Bernie's -- to open this weekend

Sep. 28—EAST GRAND FORKS — The wait is almost over.

Bernie's, Molly Yeh's new restaurant located in downtown East Grand Forks, is set to open on Saturday, Oct. 1.

"It's finally here and we cannot wait to welcome you in our doors with fresh bread and cake and baloney sandwiches!!!!" a Facebook post from the restaurant read on Wednesday.

The post said the opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, for breakfast and lunch. Dinner service is set to roll out in the coming weeks.

The opening comes after months of anticipation. The long-rumored food spot was first

announced in April

during East Grand Forks' State of the City address, a

few weeks later

the restaurant's name was announced.

The restaurant will feature a cafe and a market and sits in the former Sickie's Garage location, which is best known as the former Whitey's at 121 DeMers Ave.

In a

story previewing the opening earlier this month,

the Food Network star said it's a project she's wanted to do for "a really long time."

"Honestly, since I was a kid, I have dreamt up dream menus for dream cafes and dream bakeries, and I've always loved putting together big tables and displays of baked goods and dreaming about that type of thing," she told the Herald.

Things really got moving last summer when Yeh and her team started looking for spaces around town and seeing what the possibilities might be. The old Whitey's building felt special, Yeh noted, adding the location has ties to her husband,

Nick Hagen's

family.

The establishment

is named after the couple's oldest daughter, Bernie.

Bernie's Farmhouse will serve Midwest- and Scandinavian-inspired dishes with local ingredients and staples like tater tot hotdish, plus many more brunch options. The cafe will have grab-and-go or counter service with dishes available.

It's a busy weekend for Yeh and her family. She is launching a new cookbook titled

"Home is Where the Eggs Are,"

this week. A book-signing is slated for Saturday starting at 2 p.m. It is also the start of sugar beet harvest.

"for the record: launching a book, the start of sugar beet harvest, and opening a restaurant was never supposed to be in the same week but that's just how it happened and it's ok, i can take a nap in december, it's fine, we'll be fine!" Yeh posted on Facebook.

Last week, the restaurant

hosted the Fashion Affair

, an event that highlights local boutiques.
