Mohamed Salah: Liverpool complete £34.3m signing of winger on five-year contract
Liverpool have announced the signing of Mohamed Salah from Roma on a five-year deal.
It's understood that the club have paid £34.3m for the Egyptian international, meaning that the deal will not break the club-record £35m paid to Newcastle for Andy Carroll in January 2011.
Salah was pictured with a Liverpool shirt at the club’s Melwood training ground on Thursday night and will wear the No 11 shirt after previous incumbent Roberto Firmino switched to No 9.
The 24-year-old has agreed a deal which will see him double his weekly wages to around £90,000 per week.
"I'm very excited to be here. I'm very happy," he told liverpoolfc.com.
"I will give 100 per cent and give everything for the club. I really want to win something for this club.
"We have a great team and very good players. I was watching the games last year and everyone was giving 100 per cent to win something.
"Everyone can see the coach gives everything. I hope to see that together we can give everything to win something for the club, for the supporters and for us."
Salah, who scored 29 goals in 65 appearances in Italy, was praised by manager Jurgen Klopp for his experience and potential.
"Mohamed has the perfect mix of experience and potential - this is a really exciting signing for us," Klopp said.
"He knows the Premier League, he has pedigree in the Champions League and he is one of the most important players for his country.
"His record in Italy has been outstanding and he possesses qualities that will enhance our team and squad.
"I have followed him since he emerged at Basle and he has matured into a really good player.
"His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive.
"Most important though, for us, is that he is hungry, willing and eager to be even better and improve further.
"He believes in what we are trying to do here at Liverpool and is extremely keen to be part of it. He is very excited about performing for our wonderful supporters.
"He is an ambitious player who wants to win and win at the highest level; he knows he can fulfil those ambitions with Liverpool."
Salah has been a long-term target for Liverpool. The club previously tried to sign him three years ago but were pipped to the player's signature by Chelsea.
Klopp has already signed England's Under-20 World Cup winner Dominic Solanke after his contract expired with Chelsea, with a fee likely to be decided by a tribunal, but the plan is for him to start in the Under-23s side.
While Salah will be the club's second arrival of the summer, there are a number of players surplus to requirements at Anfield and Liverpool have already turned down an £11m bid for out-of-favour left-back Alberto Moreno from Napoli.
The Italian side are expected to return with an improved offer but face competition from two Premier League clubs and his former club Sevilla.
Liverpool secured Champions League football on the final day of the Premier League season and Klopp is set for a bumper summer spend as he looks to assemble a squad capable of challenging both at home and in Europe next term.
Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk was Klopp's number one target but the Reds were forced to drop their interest after the Saints reported them for an illegal approach.
Hull left-back Andrew Robertson is another target while RB Leipzig duo Naby Keita and Timo Werner have long been on Klopp's radar.
