Influencer exposes how 'insane' app can even edit bodies in videos: 'This terrifies me'
An influencer with over 2 million Instagram followers is revealing how she can edit herself in videos with just a few clicks of a button.
A new video by journalist and model Danae Mercer debunks the misconception that only photos can be altered so easily on social media. In a screen recording, Mercer used an editing app to alter a video of herself — making her legs longer, her waist smaller and her skinned airbrushed.

“This app edits BODIES in VIDEOS — and it looks so darn REALISTIC,” she wrote in the video’s caption.
In the Instagram post, Mercer posted the original video side-by-side with the edited one.
Viewers were stunned at how easily Mercer was able to do things so effortlessly in the app — like shrink her nose and create the illusion of an hourglass figure.
“The next time you find yourself looking at the internet and picking apart all that you are not, remember what you ARE,” Mercer’s caption continued. “The internet, with all its careful curation and app adjustments, isn’t a mirror or some measuring tool.”
“That’s insane,” one commenter wrote.
“As of a mom of a daughter, this terrifies me,” another added.
“Edited content should be flagged,” another pointed out. “You don’t even know what is real anymore!”
This isn’t the first time Mercer has tried to bring greater public awareness to the dangers of social media imagery. In July 2020, she posted a viral side-by-side photo revealing her cellulite.
“I started to feel really disconnected from what I was putting out there and what I knew happened behind the scenes,” she told In The Know at the time. “I’d show a perfect snapshot after posing and arching and taking dozens of photos for much longer than a candid moment.”
