New mock trade has Sixers acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic from Jazz

The Philadelphia 76ers are just about done with any of the big moves to their roster after they re-signed James Harden to a 1+1 deal. There could still be a minor move here and there to help improve the bench unit, but for the most part, they’re just about done.

Still, it’s still fun to take a look at some other mock trades involving the Sixers.

This one comes from Bleacher Report and it details Philadelphia making a deal with the Utah Jazz. However, not for Donovan Mitchell, but for the 3-point sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic.

Please note the trade from this article is from July 5.

The fake trade proposal

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: F Bojan Bogdanovic, SG Jordan Clarkson, F Rudy Gay

Utah Jazz Receive: PF Tobias Harris, SF Matisse Thybulle

B/R on why the Sixers do this deal

For Philly, this trade checks a number of boxes.

Shedding Harris’ contract (two years, $77 million) is a biggie for a 76ers roster about to get even more expensive when James Harden signs his next contract. It also gets them out of extending Thybulle (a restricted free agent next year) as well. Overall, this trade clears roughly $20 million off the books for next season while bringing some good talent back.

Bogdanovic averaged 18.1 points and hit 38.7 percent of his threes last season and should fit well in the middle of a lineup that now features Tyrese Maxey, Harden, P.J. Tucker and Joel Embiid. Clarkson is only a year removed from winning Sixth Man of the Year, and Gay helps him solidify this Philadelphia bench.

Analyzing the deal from a Sixers standpoint

At this point, the Sixers have a full roster so they would have to waive a player to make room for all three of the players they are acquiring from the Jazz.

Bogdanovic averaged 18.1 points and shot 38.7% from deep and would be an excellent fit on the offensive end for the Sixers. However, he is not the defender Harris is, and that would hurt Philadelphia on that end. The Sixers need a two-way player to complement their stars and Bogdanovic, and even Clarkson and Gay, don’t do that at the moment.

As much of an albatross Harris’s contract has become, it is better to keep him at this point due to his ability to play both ends of the floor and his professionalism.
