As much as everyone hated the lousy performance by Kimbo Slice on EliteXC's May 31 debut show on CBS, he was clearly a huge drawing card. This time around, with the card in Stockton, Calif., there was no N.Y. area media coverage, no appearance on Jimmy Kimmel, no debate on Bill O'Reilly and no discussion on PTI. So the hardcore MMA fans got what they wanted, legit fighters facing off, but now they'd better root for EliteXC to make it past Oct. 4 on network television. The 1.0 rating for Saturday's show isn't going to cut it.

TVbythenumbers.com says:

(The first EliteXC CBS) airing back on May 31, 2008 scored 4.3 million viewers and a 1.9/6 among 18-49 year olds and since the Kimbo Slice bout for that airing aired past primetime (11p) the most viewed portion wasn’t included. But lacking any Kimbo anticipation, last night’s fights pulled a mere 2.62 million and a 1.0/3 from 9pm-11pm.

The 'Unfinished Business' numbers are disappointing, especially since the fight card itself would have built some nice momentum for the next CBS card.

The main event between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith was a slugfest. Thomas Denny got pummeled by Nick Diaz and it was done totally on the feet. Jake Shields' one-armed submission of Nick Thompson was amazing. And the female fight easily matched the male fights for action as Cris 'Cyborg' Santos buried Shayna Baszler. It's too bad they couldn't get David Douglas' 12 second stoppage of Marlon Mathias (pictured in his tighty whities - Thanks to Combat Lifestyle) on the CBS telecast.
