MLS's California Clasico at Stanford rescheduled due to nearby fire
The Edgewood Fire in San Mateo has forced the MLS to move back the California Clasico.
The San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy were initially scheduled to play at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, but the game has been rescheduled to Sept. 24 due to a power outage at Stanford caused by equipment failure from the fire, the Quakes announced Thursday.

“We were informed by Stanford University that the issues they are experiencing on campus this week are going to prevent the California Clasico from taking place Saturday,” said Earthquakes President Jared Shawlee. “We appreciate Major League Soccer and the LA Galaxy for swiftly coming to an agreement on a rescheduled date that would allow us to keep this match and all its pageantry at Stanford Stadium. We are looking forward to putting on a spectacular event for our community in September.”
The Edgewood Fire started on Tuesday, prompting local evacuation orders and leaving thousands without power. As of Thursday morning, the 20-acre fire has been 90 percent contained.
The Quakes say all tickets for the match will carry over to its new date, but fans will also be eligible for a refund over the next 30 days. More info, including kickoff time and broadcast information, will be announced later.
