Even with only 60 games in the pandemic-shortened season last summer, seven different players started games at first base for the Rangers. Ronald Guzman's 23 starts were the most, but the elite 6-foot-5 defender with potential for big pop in his bat was inconsistent at the plate for the third year in a row. Texas got the 25-year-old Lowe, who has appeared in only 71 big league games the past two seasons, in a six-player trade of prospects.
Rougned Odor is trying to get back in the good graces of the Texas Rangers after a couple of disappointing seasons in 2019 and 2020. As we've touched on already, Odor is using third base as a launchpad to get back into the starting lineup. He would prefer to win the second base job outright, but Nick Solak will get every opportunity to win the everyday job in 2021.
Shohei Ohtani crushed his first Cactus League home run, a two-run shot that traveled 468 feet to spearhead the Angels' 6-2 win over the Texas Rangers.
