Philadelphia Phillies general manager Matt Klentak can take a deep breath, because he won’t be receiving a pink slip this offseason. Klentak built a Phillies team which finished in third place in 2020 with a 28-32 record. Despite shelling out big money for right fielder Bryce Harper two years ago and right-hander Zack Wheeler last winter, the Phillies missed the playoffs for the ninth year in a row.
The Phillies won 28 games this season, but could have won 29. Maybe 30. More, even.
Injuries set him back, never found his footing in Philly, went to Atlanta and debuted there, doubled off the Phillies at one point because why wouldn't he, now plays for the Reds, etc. Hopefully there won't be too many more repeats after this. And next up is.... You're kidding, right?
