The Boston Red Sox continue to have trade talks involving outfielder and former Madeira High School standout Andrew Benintendi, according to multiple reports Tuesday. Craig Mish reports via Twitter that the Miami Marlins are among several clubs in pursuit: MLB analyst and former Cincinnati Reds general manager Jim Bowden reported last week that the Marlins are among teams that have engaged in trade talks with Benintendi.
National Baseball Hall of Famer and former Cincinnati Reds great Johnny Bench was among those offering tributes via social media Tuesday to Don Sutton, the Hall of Fame pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland A's and California Angels - and long-time Atlanta Braves broadcaster - who died at age 75. During a 2014 appearance at Green Diamond Gallery in Montgomery, Sutton told an audience of baseball fans, "I loved your city and I loved Sparky (Anderson).
While the Cincinnati Reds are sure to actually, tangibly do something between now and the start of the season, it’s become clear that the bulk of what they expect to be for the upcoming campaign will consist of what they’ve already got in-house. While a shortstop addition here and another arm signed there might still be boons to the overall equation, what the Reds will be banking on for 2021 is pretty firmly in the spotlight already.
