GOODYEAR, Arizona – The Cincinnati Reds had an off day Saturday, but they had some Major Leaguers pitching in a “B” game against Cleveland at their spring training complex. Wade Miley and Tyler Mahle were scheduled to pitch two innings each, but they rolled the inning when they reached their allotted pitch count. Shane Bieber, the reigning American League Cy Young winner, pitched a couple of innings against Reds minor-league hitters.

Projecting the Cincinnati Reds' Opening Day roster after a week of spring training games

The Reds will likely start the season with a platoon of Barnhart, a lefty batter, starting against right-handed pitchers and Stephenson, a righty batter, facing lefties. It won’t be a strict platoon because there will be considerations for day games after night games, and managing workload throughout a week, but both players will receive a lot of at-bats. Stephenson should loom as a power bat off the bench in late innings for games that he doesn’t start.
