Another member of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ World Series team found a new home Friday when utility player Kike Hernandez and the Boston Red Sox agreed on a two-year contract. The deal, which is pending a physical, is for $14 million, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Hernandez, 29, reached free agency with one priority: joining a team that would give him the chance to play one position every day and accumulate 500-plus plate appearances per season.
Longtime Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman is expected to return to Washington on a one-year, $1 million deal, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale and The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. Zimmerman, 36, became a free agent after opting out of the 2020 season, citing health concerns with his family amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The first baseman was signed to a one-year, $2 million with Washington if he had not opted out.
The Boston Red Sox and utility man Kik Hernandez reportedly have agreed to a two-year contract.
