Carlos Hernandez pitched six scoreless innings, Salvador Perez homered again and the Kansas City Royals beat the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox 5-0 on a blistering Thursday afternoon. Perez put the Royals ahead with his 25th homer, a two-run shot in the first inning off Carlos Rodon (8-5). The Royals catcher hit a game-tying solo shot in the ninth Wednesday night before they won in 10 innings.
Danny Duffy will finally get his boyhood wish to play for the Dodgers, but the guy known for saying “bury me a Royal” will always be part of this franchise and city.
The deal may have been decided because the White Sox and Cleveland have a weekend series, so no extra travel money is needed. Meanwhile, the Sox need to swelter through another Kansas City game today, another one they should win by about 20 runs, though that hasn’t exactly happened so far. Carlos Rodón will bring his 2.24 ERA to the mound.
