Tampa Bay Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier expects to be ready for opening day next year following season-ending left hip surgery, but what team that will be with is yet to be determined. The 32-year-old Kiermaier is in the final season of a $53.5 million, six-year contract agreed to in March 2017. The Rays have a team option for 2023, which they will likely decline.
Orioles shortstop Jorge Mateo had already made magic happen once, starting behind second base in a shift, charging down a dribbler on the right side and beating Tampa Bay Rays designated hitter Brandon Lowe to first with a flip of his glove. It took a replay for the umpires to correctly rule Lowe out, preserving the no-hit bid for starter Austin Voth through four innings.
Promote Jonathan Aranda The Rays have a deep farm system that they should look to tap into down the stretch of the 2022 season. One guy who appears ready to be promoted is Jonathan Aranda. Aranda has already made a brief appearence with the Rays earlier this season, and he could help out an infield that has been depleted by injuries all season long.
