Surging Cubs aim to stay hot vs. Pirates

While the Cubs have 43 runs over the last eight games, their starting pitchers own a 2.18 ERA over that stretch, and have allowed two earned runs over 23 2/3 innings in the last four. After Wade Miley and Keegan Thompson helped Chicago post back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2019, Drew Smyly (1-4, 3.64 ERA) will take the ball in the finale. Smyly tossed five scoreless innings during a 2-1 win at Pittsburgh on April 12.

Bucs shut out again, lose to Cubs 7-0

Talk about anemic offense. The Pittsburgh Pirates only snagged five hits Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs, and the pitching staff couldn’t bail them out again on their way to a 7-0 defeat. They’ve now been no-hit and shut out twice in their last three game, ironically only winning the game in which they were no hit.

Jonathan Villar goes deep as Cubs rout Pirates

Jonathan Villar homered and had two RBIs, while Keegan Thompson threw five strong innings, as the host Chicago Cubs won their fourth straight, 7-0 over the scuffling Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. Seiya Suzuki's two-run double highlighted a five-run fourth and Christopher Morel homered during his first career at-bat in the eighth for the Cubs, who rolled to a 9-0 win over Pittsburgh on Monday, and now have posted back-to-back home victories for the first time since April.
