    With just two series left to play, the season for the Pittsburgh Pirates is officially coming to a close. There were plenty of memorable moments this season as we snapped the 100-game loss stretch that clouded over us for two years. There were also just as many blunders to talk about as the Buccos never fail to disappoint in that department. With that spirit in mind, we're going to have a little bit more fun with some superlatives to wrap up the Pirates' 2023 season.

    Pirates call up Kyle Nicolas; option Thomas Hatch, Place Andrew McCutchen on 60-day IL

    The Pittsburgh Pirates have selected the contract of RHP Kyle Nicolas from AAA Indianapolis per a team announcement. Nicolas, the 26th-ranked Pirates prospect according to MLB Pipeline, was acquired from the Miami Marlins in the Jacob Stallings trade in the 2021 offseason. Despite striking out 98 batters in 79.2 innings combined in both AA and AAA, his ERA was 5.99.

    The Pirates believe Andrew McCutchen can help them in 2024 after recovery from Achilles injury

    Andrew McCutchen wants to keep playing in Pittsburgh. Pirates general manager Ben Cherington is confident it will happen. Cherington said Wednesday he believes McCutchen will be able to “help us” in 2024 after he recovers from a partially torn Achilles tendon in his left foot that cut short his homecoming season. The 36-year-old McCutchen, who is sitting on 299 career home runs, is scheduled to be a free agent in the offseason after signing a one-year deal to return to Pittsburgh last winter.
