The history of pranks in baseball is long and proud. Sometimes the pranks are simple, like attaching a bunch of matches to the back of a pitcher’s cleats. Sano had a rubber rattlesnake with him in the dugout, and was showing to other teammates when pitching coach Neil Allen came by.
Baltimore Orioles:The O’s are knee deep in the worst stretch of their season, suffering through a week-long losing streak at the hands of the Twins and Astros. As a result, they have fallen into third place in the ever-relentless AL East and are closer to fourth place Tampa Bay than to the Yankee club they have been intertwined with throughout the year. The week ahead offers a tremendous chance for the Orioles to either sink or swim, as they will head home for back-to-back series with both teams ahead of them in the standings. Boston Red Sox: The BoSox enter the new week on an encouraging note, having put together a six-game win streak (their longest run on the year) and finally gaining ground in the AL East standings.
The Detroit Tigers’ eleven game road trip is quickly turning into a march into oblivion. Jordan Zimmermann was rocked badly again and the bats were silent until it was too late to matter. Coming off one of his better outings, there was some hope that Jordan Zimmermann was finally finding some solid footing. Zimmermann looked good through two innings, painting the edges with a lively fastball. And then, as has so often been the case, the wheels fell off in a big way. In each of the three successive innings, Zimmermann allowed a home run, two of them of the two-run variety. Meanwhile, the Tigers looked completely lost against Miguel Gonzalez. They didn’t manage so much as a hit until Andrew Romine
