The New York Yankees are retaining a crucial part of their offense by bringing back second baseman DJ LeMahieu after his foray into the free-agent market. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Friday the sides are finalizing a six-year, $90 million contract. LeMahieu should slot right back in as the Yanks' leadoff hitter for the 2021 season, the same role he's filled for the past two years.
The New York Yankees and AL batting champion DJ LeMahieu worked Friday to put in place a six-year contract worth about $90 million, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino explains why the Yankees coming to an agreement with free agent DJ LeMahieu for more years and a lower average annual value gives the team more flexibility to operate under the luxury tax to fill roster needs.
