Fulmer taken by Dodgers' minor league team from Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Triple-A team at Oklahoma selected right-hander Carson Fulmer from Cincinnati on Wednesday with the 39th and final pick of the Triple-A phase of Major League Baseball’s annual draft of unprotected players. The major league phase of the Rule 5 draft was postponed because of MLB’s lockout of the players’ association, which started last week following the expiration of the collective bargaining agreement. The Triple-A phase involved players left off 38-man Triple-A rosters.

It is Hall of Fame season in professional baseball, and for that we should be thankful. Instead, it is a time to celebrate the latest denizens of Cooperstown, New York: Buck O’Neil, Gil Hodges, Minnie Miñoso, Tony Oliva, Jim Kaat and Bud Fowler.

Former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Tim Federowicz announced on Twitter that he is retiring after a 14-year career to become the manager of the Seattle Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate Tacoma Rainiers. Federowicz fills the void left by former Dodgers utilityman Kristopher Negrón, who recently was named the Mariners’ new first base coach. Federowicz was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the seventh round of the 2008 MLB Draft.
