    Lighthouse of SWFL, United Way and Ocean Breeze offer ultimate Red Sox Spring Training experience

    Lighthouse of Southwest Florida and United Way have teamed up with Ocean Breeze Heating & Cooling to raffle off the ultimate Boston Red Sox Spring Training experience. Only 500 raffle tickets will be sold at $100 each. The winner receives four tickets to sit atop the “Green Monster” in left field at Jet- Blue Park at the March 4, 1:05 p.m. spring training game versus the reigning World Series Champion Houston Astros.

    New outfielder Masataka Yoshida arrives early at Red Sox camp

    Pitchers and catchers aren't required to report to spring training until Tuesday. Yoshida, who was signed to a five-year, $90 million contract in December, will be with the Red Sox until approximately the first week of March, when he returns to Japan to prepare for the World Baseball Classic. Depending on how far Japan advances, Yoshida could be gone until March 22. The only other position player spotted Wednesday was infielder Christian Arroyo.

    Boston Red Sox star Chris Sale spent more time in the minor leagues than he would have liked the last couple of years. It was right-handed pitcher Bryan Mata, who returned to the mound last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2021. The 23-year-old is ranked as Boston's No. 6 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and can light up a radar gun.
