Tigers aim to extend win streak, sweep Royals

For a team with seemingly nothing to play for, the Detroit Tigers can accomplish quite a bit with a victory Thursday. They can extend their winning streak to six games, they have a chance to sweep a three-game home set against the Kansas City Royals, and they would secure a 10-9 victory in the season series. Detroit (62-92) can also ensure that it won't lose 100 games and at the same time -- at least temporarily -- get out of last place in the American League Central by passing the Royals (63-92).

Tigers edge Royals in 10th inning

Harold Castro singled in the winning run with two outs in the 10th inning after tying it with a two-run single in the eighth in the Detroit Tigers’ 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Tucker Barnhart bunted pinch-runner Ryan Kreidler to third and Anthony Misiewicz (3-2) intentionally walked pinch-hitter Eric Haase. Riley Greene struck out, and the Royals decided to walk Javy Baez to pitch to Castro with the bases loaded.
