Astros celebrate with fans in 2023

It was only four and a half months ago that the Houston Astros toppled the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 to claim the second World Series title in their franchise history. The Astros are continuing their 2022 celebration as they open the 2023 season, one they're selling with a “Ready2Reign” season ticket campaign. They are making it rain like never before. Items available in the new Astros team store include pullovers, bedazzled women's jackets, throwback apparel and the World Series clinching moment on a wooden bat. Miami beats No. 1 seed Houston; all four top NCAA men's seeds out

Nijel Pack and Miami hit shots from near and far against the stingiest defense in the country to beat Houston 89-75 on Friday night in the Sweet 16, leaving the NCAA Tournament without a single No. 1 seed among its final eight teams for the first time since seeding began in 1979. Miami (28-7), only the fifth team this season to score at least 70 points against Houston (33-4), will play second-seeded Texas or No. 3 seed Xavier in the Midwest Region final for the chance to go to the Final Four.

Houston Astros tap Framber Valdez for opening night vs. Chicago White Sox

With Justin Verlander swapping Astros orange and blue for Mets orange and blue, Houston's obvious choice for its opening-day starting pitcher hasn't really been too obvious. After all, field manager Dusty Baker is in command of a murderers' row of remaining rotation pieces, who contributed to an America League-best .654 winning percentage for starting pitching last season. The video above is from a November 2022 story on the pitching coach behind the Astros' arms.
