Adam Duvall ended the game with his second two-run homer after left fielder Ryan McKenna dropped a two-out fly in the ninth, giving the Boston Red Sox a 9-8 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday. Duvall had four hits and five RBIs. Baltimore stole five bases and became the first team to steal 10 in its first two games since at least 1901. Jorge Mateo swiped two, and Cedric Mullins, Ryan McKenna and Austin Hays one each.
After dropping a wild one to the Orioles on Opening Day Thursday, the Red Sox will turn to Chris Sale Saturday in search of their first win of the season. Sale will take the ball for his first Fenway start since September 2021, having missed all of the 2020 season and much of the 2021 and 2022 campaigns with a slew of injuries. The Orioles will counter with Dean Kremer, who was very solid last season with a 3.23 ERA over 125 ⅓ innings. The righthander has struggled against the Red Sox, however, with an 0-4 record and a 6.85 ERA over five rough starts.
Grayson Rodriguez of the Baltimore Orioles will start the Triple-A season opener for Norfolk, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Rodriguez is one of the top prospects in not only the Oriole organization but all of Major League Baseball. Rodriguez is a future ace, something the O's are sorely lacking.
