After meeting on Sunday, the St Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers both reached the postseason.
The Brewers fell 5-2, but it didn’t matter because the Giants failed to take care of their own business and finished 29-31. The game was close through six innings with the Giants trailing 2-1, but the Padres staged a three-run rally in the seventh beginning with Evan Longoria’s fielding error, and the Giants fell short despite homers by Brandon Crawford and Wilmer Flores. The Giants couldn’t have asked for more from starter Drew Smyly, though he might disagree.
Mauricio Dubon homers to right field. Brandon Crawford pops out to shallow infield to Fernando Tatis Jr.. run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 0 left on.
