The Texas Rangers spent a lot of money on pitching during the offseason, and they hope to see a return on that investment when right-hander Nathan Eovaldi makes his club debut against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday at Arlington, Texas. Eovaldi, who spent the last 4 1/2 seasons with the Boston Red Sox, signed a two-year, $34 million contract with Texas in December.
Is this the year the power comes for Alec Bohm? He's significantly bigger and impressed right away on opening day.
The difficult thing about Opening Day is that it does not prove anything, but it's all we have to go on. The Phillies and their fans got what they paid for on an Opening Day of immense promise. Secondly, Opening Day is pretty much worthless as a leading indicator. Think back two years ago, when the Phillies opened the 2021 season with a three-game sweep of the Braves.
