Quiroz hits go-ahead single in 8th, Cubs beat Pirates 6-5

Esteban Quiroz hit a go-ahead single in the eighth, his second in three innings, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-5 on Friday night for their fourth straight win. Quiroz lined a two-out hit against Yohan Ramirez (1-1) to left in the eighth, driving in Jared Young. Two innings earlier, he chopped an infield single to cap a three-run sixth for the Cubs, who have won eight of 11.

Bullpen, walks sink Pirates in 6-5 loss to Cubs as losing streak hits 8

With the Pirates clinging to a two-run lead and Wilson out of the game after 89 pitches, the game first rumbled off the tracks in the sixth inning, starting with Wil Crowe walking three of the first five hitters he faced. The final one of those, pinch-hitter Franmil Reyes, brought home a run. The issue was not solved whenever manager Derek Shelton brought in Manny Banuelos to pitch to Cubs shortstop Zach McKinstry, as the Pirates lefty followed with a free pass of his own to tie the game at 4.

Pirates blow lead versus Cubs, fall 6-5

The Pittsburgh Pirates blew an early lead against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night, came back to tie the game, then blew it again in true Bucco fashion, falling 6-5 to the Cubbies for their eighth straight defeat. Bryan Reynolds got things started early for Pittsburgh with an RBI single, but that Bucco lead was quickly evaporated on a two-run homer the following inning by Patrick Wisdom off of starter Bryse Wilson.
