We are now well into the year 2021, thankfully. While the offseason has thus far been a slow one for the Milwaukee Brewers, fans of the franchise can at least be thankful that new top prospects lists have already started to be released for the upcoming season. That means that even after an unprecedented season without any affiliated minor league baseball having been played, it is time to take stock of the farm system with the annual Brew Crew Ball Community Top Prospects voting!
The Milwaukee Brewers avoided salary arbitration with two of their best pitchers on Friday. The reached contract agreements with both Josh Hader and Brandon Woodruff. They signed Hader to a one year deal for $6.675 million for 2021.
Woodruff also reached "Super 2" status — given to the top 22% of players with between two and three years of service time — making him eligible for arbitration for the first time in his career. Milwaukee's Opening Day starter last season, Woodruff, 27, went 3-5 in 13 starts but finished with a 3.05 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while striking out 91 batters over 72 2/3 innings. With Hader and Woodruff signed, the Brewers have committed approximately $67 million to 14 players for the 2021 season.
