Big League Stew - MLB

The names of Orel Hershiser, Dan Shulman and Bobby Valentine were instantly suggested the minute that ESPN launched Jon Miller and Joe Morgan from their "Sunday Night Baseball" television broadcast last month. On Wednesday, our assumptions became official as ESPN announced that the trio will be our new Sunday night companions during the 2011 season. If you're a radio sort of person, Boog Sciambi and Chris Singleton will get the call on ESPN Radio.

I'm not a big fan of the three-man booth in baseball, so maybe we would have all been better off had some team seen fit to deal with Valentine in its dugout. That said, it's great to see Shulman and Sciambi finally get their big shots on the network's premier baseball broadcasts. While both have a great technical approach, they also have great personalities and do their homework — both in the clubhouse and on — before the game. They're going to be fun listens and they're two more reasons that the next season can't come quickly enough.
