Twitter reacts to Bauer's $102M contract with rival Dodgers originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Well, that was fun.

The Trevor Bauer sweepstakes are over, and the 2020 NY Cy Young Award winner will be a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021 after agreeing to a 3-year, $102 million deal (with opt outs after the first two years) on Friday.

He made the announcement on Twitter after MLB insider Jon Heyman first broke the news. Bauer chose the Dodgers over a reportedly bigger payday from the New York Mets.

And speaking of Twitter, the internet had a field day with it, which is probably what Bauer would have wanted.

For starters, let's take a look take a look at the Dodgers' starters in 2021. Including one of the starters himself:

Even football got in on the action. NFL Network insider and noted Mets fan Ian Rapoport weighed in:

Our own Alex Pavlovic couldn't believe the troll job either:

Here’s another little nugget for you now that Bauer will be the highest-paid player in MLB history in 2021 and then again in ‘22.

And then this from A's reliever Jake Diekman:

The A’s current payroll for the 2021 season sits at $70 million, so at least Bauer doesn’t exceed that.

Mr. Met appears to be taking the news well:

And Rachel Luba, Bauer's agent, said there still will be a soft spot in their hearts.

Bauer and the Dodgers are heavy favorites to repeat as World Series champions in 2021. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report on Feb. 17.
