Game summary: When you're in the midst of a terrible losing stretch (seven straight for the White Sox), sometimes you just need to will your way to victory through heart alone. Well, in this case, the heart of the order.

Jose Abreu, the three-hole hitter, roped a solo homer in the sixth inning that hugged the left field line and ended Padres starter Garrett Richards' day. Eloy Jimenez, the cleanup hitter, made it back-to-back, also drilling a homer to left field. Nomar Mazara capped the inning with an RBI single to center, giving the White Sox a 3-2 lead. More heart later.

Gio Gonzalez clocked five innings, allowing two runs and striking out four batters, but it seems like the bullpen just can't catch a break this season. From the sixth through eighth, White Sox relievers gave up four runs, potentially sending the team to its eighth straight loss.

But the heart was beating loudly in this one. Jimenez hit another solo homer in the eightth, his 14th of the season. Abreu sent White Sox back to Chicago happy, crushing a three-run homer off closer Kirby Yates.

The White Sox won 7-6 and mercifully ended their week-long losing streak.
