NBC Sports Chicago is simulating the 2020 White Sox season via MLB The Show during the postponement of play. The White Sox, stocked with young talent and veteran offseason acquisitions, were expected to take a big step forward in their rebuild this season. Follow along as we play out the first few months of the season.

Result: Angels def. White Sox 8-7

Record: 10-18, 4th in AL Central (6.5 GB of Twins)

W: Andrew Heaney (2-2)
L: Gio Gonzalez (1-2)
SV: Ty Buttrey (8)

Game summary: The Sox struggles continued on Saturday, dropping their sixth straight game. Gio Gonzalez had his worst outing in a Sox uniform, giving up six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. After grabbing a run in the second, Angels offseason acquistion Anthony Rendon hit his AL-leading 11th home run in the third to give the Halos a 2-0 lead. Gonzalez was tagged for four more runs in the fourth, including a Brian Goodwin solo shot to knock Gonzalez out of the game.

Down 6-0 in the 8th, the White Sox fought back and finally got a key contribution from Eloy Jimenez via a 3-run homer. Jimenez entered Saturday's contest 0-for-16 in his last four games.

The Sox pen was tagged in the eighth with two more runs, making it an 8-3 deficit going into the ninth, but Ricky's boys didn't quit. After a Nick Madrigal single, Tim Anderson started the ninth-inning scoring with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to three.

Later in the inning, with two aboard, Yasmani Grandal hit a slicing single to left field to bring Jose Abreu and Edwin Encarnacion home. Just like that, it was a one-run ball game. Jimenez stepped up with the game on the line but couldn't muster up any more magic, grounding in a game-ending double play.
