NBC Sports Chicago is simulating the 2020 White Sox season via MLB The Show during the postponement of play. The White Sox, stocked with young talent and veteran offseason acquisitions, were expected to take a big step forward in their rebuild this season. Follow along as we play out the first few months of the season.

Result: Angels def. White Sox 8-7

Record: 10-18, 4th in A.L. Central (6.5 GB of Twins)

W: Andrew Heaney (2-2)

L: Gio Gonzalez (1-2)

SV: Ty Buttrey (8)

Game Summary: The struggles continued for the Southsiders in Anaheim on Saturday dropping their 6th straight game. Gio Gonzalez took the mound for the White Sox and had his worst outing in a Sox uniform giving up six earned runs in 3.1 innings. After grabbing a run in the second, Angels' offseason acquisition Anthony Rendon hit his AL-leading 11th home run in the 3rd off the Sox lefty to give the Halos a 2-0 lead. The next inning Gonzalez was tagged for four more runs including a Brian Goodwin solo shot forcing Rick Renteria to pull Gonzalez early.

Down 6-0 in the 8th, the White Sox did fight back late and finally got a key contribution from Eloy Jimenez with a 3-run homer to right field bleachers. Jimenez entered Saturday's contest 0-for-16 in his last four games.

The Sox pen was tagged in the bottom of the 8th with two more runs giving them an 8-3 lead going into the 9th, but Ricky's boys didn't quit. After a Nick Madrigal single, Tim Anderson started the 9th inning scoring with a 2-run home run to left field to shrink the deficit to 3. Later on in the inning, with two aboard, Yasmani Grandal hit a slicing single to left field bringing in Jose Abreu and Edwin Encarnacion, and just like that it was a one-run ballgame. The next batter with the game on the line and one out was Jimenez, but Eloy couldn't muster up any more magic grounding in a game-ending double play.
