Report: Red Sox among teams interested in Yasiel Puig originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

The Boston Red Sox reportedly remain in the mix to sign Yasiel Puig in free agency this winter.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, several teams are showing "varying levels of interest" in the veteran outfielder including the Red Sox, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Miami Marlins, and Baltimore Orioles. Boston also was rumored to be interested in Puig in November.

Puig agreed to sign with the Atlanta Braves for the 2020 season, but a positive COVID-19 test derailed those plans. The 29-year-old last played in 2019 with the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians.

During the 2019 campaign, Puig posted a slash line of .267/.327/.458 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI. He spent the previous six seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was an All-Star in 2014.

The Red Sox could use an additional outfielder, especially if they end up losing center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. in free agency. However, they added outfield depth earlier in the offseason by signing Hunter Renfroe to a one-year deal, and they appear to still have JBJ on their radar.
