MLB Power Rankings 2021: Standings as division races heat up originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

Forget all the doomsday scenarios in New York and Los Angeles. The Yankees and Dodgers are hot, and it's making for exciting races in their respective divisions.

The Yankees, behind a sluggish start offensively, finished April under .500 and were as many as five games under at one point. They've things around entirely and are right outside first in the AL East.

Boston still leads the AL in wins, and Tampa Bay is the hottest team in baseball right now. Don't forget about the up-and-coming Blue Jays, either.

The Dodgers never dropped to .500, but a 4-13 stretch dropped them to 18-17 just two weeks ago. They've since gone 11-1, reestablishing themselves in the NL West race with the Padres and Giants.

Of course, the Padres have won nine straight games, so they're not going anywhere.

The first seven weeks this season provided plenty of surprises, and therefore plenty of intrigue, as expected contenders struggles. The intrigue is still there with those clubs now back on track.

Here's how all 30 teams stack up entering the last week of May.
