MLB Power Rankings 2021: Giants state case as best of West originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago
The Dodgers barreled into San Francisco red hot and threatening to knock the Giants out of first place in the NL West.
San Francisco had something to say about that.
The Giants took two of three from their division rivals to stave off Los Angeles and maintain their division lead, albeit a narrow one.
All season long, the overwhelming consensus has seemingly been that the Dodgers will eventually overtake the Giants in the division race.
If it wasn't clear already, San Francisco is just as good of a club, if not better.
With no head-to-head meetings left this season, the Dodgers will have to get a little help the rest of the way. Their deficit is hardly insurmountable — the Giants hold a one-game lead.
But if last weekend's series showed anything, it's the Dodgers winning a ninth straight NL West crown is far from a given.
Here's how all 30 teams stack up in the MLB Power Rankings one week into September.
